July 9: Project FAIR (Families Achieving Independence through Recovery); How One Program Links Human Services Workers to AOD Prevention, Treatment & Recovery Services for Families

During their day-to-day activities, social workers must make important decisions affecting families in which one or more members appear to have substance abuse issues. This collaborative effort provides them with critical information about the impact of substance abuse on individuals, families and especially vulnerable children as well as streamlined access to prevention, treatment, and recovery services. This workshop will provide an overview of the program including screening and referral procedures; legal issues that must be considered; and prevention strategies used to promote family unification and/or reunification.

Course Objectives: Participants who complete this course will be able:
- Identify at least three situational dynamics that suggest the need for AOD referral and intervention.
- Describe the referral and screening procedures utilized in this program.
- Identify three important legal issues that must be considered and their implications for working with families.
- Identify and describe at least three best practice prevention strategies that promote family unification and/or reunification.
