Advocate. Collaborate. Make a Difference.

โ€œIโ€™m incredibly excited to join the Michigan Federation for Children and Families as the Coordinator of Programs & Advocacy. This role brings together all the threads of my careerโ€”clinical work, systems change, nonprofit leadership, and community partnership. Every step along the way has prepared me for this opportunity to advocate for Michiganโ€™s children and families at a statewide level. Iโ€™m honored to contribute to policy and practice improvements that reflect the lived realities of those we serve.โ€

The Michigan Federation for Children and Families is pleased to announce the newest addition to our team: Jan Maino, Coordinator of Programs and Advocacy!

In this important role, Jan will help advance the Federationโ€™s statewide advocacy efforts on behalf of children, youth, and families, bringing special focus to behavioral health and child welfare services and systems. She will work closely with our member organizations and partners to elevate key issues, identify collaborative solutions, and support policies that improve outcomes for children and families throughout Michigan.

Jan brings over three decades of leadership experience across behavioral health, child welfare, nonprofit advocacy, and public policy. She brings a depth of perspective, operational expertise, and a deep commitment to system change that aligns powerfully with the Federation's mission. She most recently served as Division Director of Behavioral Health at Wellspring Lutheran Services, leading clinical programs across 19 counties.

Jan holds both a masterโ€™s and bachelorโ€™s degree in social work from Eastern Michigan University and is licensed by the State of Michigan as a Clinical and Macro Social Worker. A lifelong advocate for collaboration and innovation, she approaches her work with curiosity, empathy, and an unwavering belief in the power of community.

Jan officially began her role with the Federation on July 21! She joins a strong and dedicated team that includes Chief Strategy Officer Kadi Prout, Director of Administration and Operations Rose Homa, Senior Director of Advocacy and Impact Elizabeth Henderson, Director of Member Relations and Events Jenny Crichton, and myself. We are delighted to welcome Jan to the Federation, and we are excited for the passion, expertise, and perspective she brings to our collective work!
