VIEW REPORT: Protective Factors Training Initiative FY25 Evaluation Report
Reporting Period: October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025
The Protective Factors Training Initiative aims to deepen trainees’ knowledge of the key elements that foster resilience and support the well-being of children and families, aligning with the MDHHS Keep Kids Safe Action Agenda, as well as the two-generation (2Gen) whole-family framework. The 2Gen approach recognizes that family stability is likely to increase, and child maltreatment may decrease, when the needs of both children and caregivers are assessed and addressed. The purpose of the initiative described in this report is to equip child welfare professionals with the necessary knowledge and tools to implement the Protective Factors Framework, thereby contributing meaningfully to Michigan’s goal of cultivating strong, resilient communities.
Through the generous support of MDHHS, 435 Michigan child welfare professionals participated in 24 trainings from January 2025 through September 2025, during which they engaged in a range of interactive experiences—including discussions and skill-building exercises—intended to strengthen their ability to apply the Protective Factors Framework in their daily work with Michigan children and caregivers.
After each training, participants had the chance to complete a brief five-question (Lunch-and-Learn trainings) or a 16-question (all other trainings) online survey, which asked trainees to report demographic information, their self-rated increase in understanding, and options for open-ended feedback. This report is based on the analysis of 254 returned complete surveys.
